Coping with Constraint Violation: the Practical Face of Database Integrity

چکیده

We consider the problems of coping with violations of semantic integrity constraints in applications requiring long-duration, user-controlled transaction. Such a transaction will typically violate many constraints, and will have a complicated semantics that is non-trivial to repair. We propose an approach to the related problems of explaining integrity violations, and presenting possible repair plans, to the users of such systems. The approach uses natural language generation techniques to explain the available options to users in their own terms, rather than in the terms used by the DBMS, and thus results in a more user-centred system that is more easily accepted by lay-users.

Aucs/tr9603 Coping with Constraint Violation: the Practical Face of Database Integrity

This report describes an approach to handling violations of integrity constraints in databases which focusses on the needs of the user rather than the implementation. Traditionally, researchers have concentrated on the problems of checking constraint satisfaction , and have given little attention to how systems should behave when constraints are found to have been violated. We focus on two aspe...

Toward a Paraconsistent Semantics of Database Integrity

alence of the consistency view wrt violation, i.e. wrt negative information, corresponds to the prevalence of normal clauses wrt positive information. However, we have argued that an application-independent semantics of integrity should not be one-sided wrt conditions that entail violation (or, resp., satisfaction) while being less concerned wrt the opposite. Rather, it should be left to the pa...

Maintaining the Integrity Constraints of Mobile Databases with Event-Condition-Action (ECA) Rules

An important problem for a database system is to guarantee database consistency. Difficulty arises in devising an efficient algorithm for checking database integrity against updates and for maintaining the consistency of the database, which indisputable desires great attention. However, it is intricate to accomplish particularly in a distributed and mobile environment due to the nature and char...

Deriving Production Rules for Constraint Maintainance

Traditionally, integrity constraints in database systems are maintained either by rolling back any transaction that produces an inconsistent state or by disallowing or modifying operations that may produce an inconsistent state. An alternative approach is to provide automatic “repair” of inconsistent states using production rules. For each constraint, a production rule is used to detect constra...

پیشگیری از عود مروری بر مدل رفتاری- شناختی مارلات

Relapse prevention(RP)is an important component of alcoholism treatment. The RP model proposed by Marlatt and Gordon suggests that both immediate determinants (e.g.,high- risk situations, coping skills, outcome expectancies, and the abstinence violation effect) and covert antecedents (e.g., lifestyle factor and urges and cravings) can contribute to relapse. The RP model also incorporates numerou...
